There is only one unforgivable sin and that is blasphemy against the Holy Ghost.
Blasphemy against the Holy Ghost is attributing works of the Lord to Satan. Some teach that if a person sins they are not truly saved. This is not true. Peter lied three times and swore an oath that he did not know Jesus. The Lord knew Peter was going to blow it. Before Peter ever sinned Jesus said I have prayed for you. Jesus also told him when you get straightened up strengthen your brethren. Satan can’t come and take away what is God’s. Peter was His. That doesn’t mean the Lord makes you a prisoner.
I know someone whose house burned down. It knocked him for a loop. I prayed for him. I knew he would feel down. This person had a son during a time of being in sin. He also has a son with his wife. His one child got into drugs. He was grieved but his sin had consequences. You bring sin upon your family and because of that you cause problems for others.
The scriptures say we have the sure mercies of David.
David sinned with Bathsheba. If Bathsheba had followed the law she should have been kicking and yelling. Bathsheba willingly was with David and they made a baby. She lost the baby. From then on she was always referred to as Uriah’s wife.
Joab was an accessory to the act and that cost him later. When David had true repentance he said I sinned against thee only. David had true repentance but sin has consequences.
I was pastoring a group of people in Columbus. This one brother got involved with teenage girls. When he got caught in the mess he created by sinning he said he sinned against the Lord alone. He didn’t understand covenant. He used the scripture wrongly. He sinned against his wife. He sinned against his marriage and his own body.
Ephesians 4:30 (KJV) 30 And grieve not the holy Spirit of God, whereby ye are sealed unto the day of redemption.
People teach if you were truly saved you would never do that but the book is full of warnings and admonitions for born again people to stay out of sin. The book of Revelation is full of warnings.
Another time I was sent to warn a brother to leave the relationship he was in and go back to his wife. He didn’t listen to the warning. Later in life he straightened up and the Lord used him to help me. He called me during a difficult time in my life. He told me he was back walking with the Lord and read my book. He asked me how I was doing and I told him I’m doing the same way your wife was doing ten years ago when I told you to leave that other women alone.
I explained to him the Lord has forgiven you. Your sin has been forgiven and you should expect the sure mercies of David but with sin there are always consequences. Your sin could cause a broken marriage, jealously, problems with your children, lack of trust and the list could go on. Sin causes a lot of things that create problems.
The wages of sin are death. It does not mean you are going to drop dead. You kill trust and relationships. You lose certain things when you sin so there is a death to certain things. After I explained all of this to him he said the Lord put all that in his heart, that even though the sin is over there are consequences.
Romans 6:23 (KJV) 23 For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.
The best thing to do is say Lord I thank you for your mercy. I thank you for forgiveness. You have cast my sins as far as the east is from the west. I am under no more condemnation.
Psalm 103:12 (KJV) 12 As far as the east is from the west, so far hath he removed our transgressions from us.
I believe he has straightened up and is worthy of support. He is teaching and going to different countries. The Lord is using him. The Lord even used him when he was wrong.
One brother fled to South Africa because of bad judgement. The Lord used him and he opened doors. It was through him that I got over Africa.
Now over the years money that comes in through this ministry goes over to Africa to pay school fees for his children. Donations also help out in many other ways. When I bring it up he says I’m beating him. I told him I am not beating you. The word says if you are a son the Lord will correct you. If the Lord doesn’t correct you then you are a bastard; an illegitimate child. No correction is pleasant. The word says afterwards it yields the peaceable fruit of righteousness.
Hebrews 12:11 (KJV) 11 Now no chastening for the present seemeth to be joyous, but grievous: nevertheless afterward it yieldeth the peaceable fruit of righteousness unto them which are exercised thereby.
There is nothing we do or have done or will ever do to earn His grace or mercy.
Entering into covenant is simply a guarantee of his mercy and grace. We are saved by grace. Our Lord took all the punishment, all the correction and chastisement for our sense of well-being. We are not going to go into judgement for our sins but we can pay for it. In some way there is a cost.
We can sin in our mind, and in our heart. Satan can’t just come in and take you over. Martin Luther was quoted as saying, you cannot keep the birds from flying over your head but you can keep them from building a nest in your hair. There are times you are tempted and you may go too far in your mind but then you don’t carry it out. The word says such were some of you.
1 Corinthians 6:11 (KJV) 11 And such were some of you: but ye are washed, but ye are sanctified, but ye are justified in the name of the Lord Jesus, and by the Spirit of our God.
There were times I was not happy with my boss and thought of ways I could do him in. I would repent and preach to him. He would say I know I am a bad guy. It was an inner battle with me and I eventually won the victory. I wrote about him in my book. He had given me time off work and during that time he had a heart attack. When he came back to work he apologized to me. It was an eight year battle with him. I never had a bad temper nor was a violent person. I used to get picked on because I didn’t fight but there are times you want to.
One time my foster child was screaming daddy, daddy in his bed and I looked at him and noticed he had been burned with cigarettes. I didn’t know if he was asking for his daddy or if his daddy was the one doing it. His mother came to a meeting once and I told her if you don’t repent you are going to lose the things you love. I was in McConnelsville, Ohio walking across the street from the courthouse. I saw my foster child’s father coming from the hardware store. It was all I could do to not hit him. I verbally let him have it. I was right across the street from the sheriff’s office. It didn’t look good that the new preacher in town was reacting this way. We can have thoughts, react and do things that are sin and then there is practicing sin which we will go over sometime.
There is momentary sin where we react in the moment. We can repent, get up and go on. In God’s word it says sin can nullify your benefits. Our momentary reactions or thoughts hinder the benefits God wants to give you. That is the tragedy of the miss use of the word saved. Once saved always saved people say if you sin you are not truly saved.
Was the prodigal son truly a son? You could say once a son always a son. You can’t say once saved always saved. Ananias and Sapphira were part of a group of 3000 that were endued with power, speaking in tongues and seeing miracles. They lied to the Holy Ghost. They died. They didn’t die saved. They died born again. The word save (sozo) by definition means to save, deliver, protect (literally or figuratively), heal, preserve, save (self), do well, be (make) whole. Churches miss use the word save.
The perfecting of the saints is to mature Christians. The Lord uses a child as an example. If you teach God’s children wrong you would be better off committing suicide. It would be better than going into judgement over wrong teaching. Jesus was talking to His twelve disciples (students) and there were other people around. He’s telling them these are innocent people. Pastors are taking innocent people and teaching them wrong doctrine.
Matthew 18:6 (KJV) 6 But whoso shall offend one of these little ones which believe in me, it were better for him that a millstone were hanged about his neck, and that he were drowned in the depth of the sea.
Paul asked, shall we sin that grace may abound? The answer is no. Thank the Lord for His grace. Thank the Lord for His mercy. If I do foolish things it may cost me but I thank the Lord for His grace. When King David straightened up he was a blessed man. It cost David. There was price but he was a blessed man.
Praise Yahweh for His mercies for me
